Samantha L. Strong; Amy L. Sheppard – Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, 2025
Assessments in higher education healthcare programmes can be challenging because they not only need to be fair, valid, and transparent, but it is also necessary to gauge safety, practical skill competence, and professionalism. One way to help maximise validity in practical assessments is to utilise 'standard setting' which aims to set a fair 'cut…

Nichols, Paul; Twing, Jon; Mueller, Canda D.; O'Malley, Kimberly – Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice, 2010
Some writers in the measurement literature have been skeptical of the meaningfulness of achievement standards and described the standard-setting process as blatantly arbitrary. We argue that standard setting is more appropriately conceived of as a measurement process similar to student assessment. The construct being measured is the panelists'…

Kroopnick, Marc Howard – ProQuest LLC, 2010
When Item Response Theory (IRT) is operationally applied for large scale assessments, unidimensionality is typically assumed. This assumption requires that the test measures a single latent trait. Furthermore, when tests are vertically scaled using IRT, the assumption of unidimensionality would require that the battery of tests across grades…

Smith, Everett V., Jr.; Johnson, Brian D. – Journal of Applied Measurement, 2000
Explored the dimensionality of responses to the Adult Behavior Checklist-Revised, a screening assessment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHA) in college students. Responses from 317 undergraduates were used, with 8 judges involved in standard setting. Findings show secondary variables that may have clinical implications. (SLD)

Little, Todd D.; Slegers, David W.; Card, Noel A. – Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2006
A non-arbitrary method for the identification and scale setting of latent variables in general structural equation modeling is introduced. This particular technique provides identical model fit as traditional methods (e.g., the marker variable method), but it allows one to estimate the latent parameters in a nonarbitrary metric that reflects the…
