Promoting Social and Emotional Growth of Students with Disabilities
Darrow, Alice-Ann
General Music Today, v28 n1 p29-32 Oct 2014
Students with disabilities are often faced with numerous challenges as they progress through their school years. In addition to disability-related challenges, they may encounter additional difficulties such as bullying in school and lack of social acceptance by their peers. It is important that students with disabilities develop competence in skills that will promote their social success in school. Affective education during their school years may improve the quality of life for students with disabilities as they transition into adulthood. Music-making experiences can provide opportunities to practice important life skills that will benefit students' social and emotional development.
