Coie, John D.; Dorval, Bruce – Developmental Psychology, 1973
Analytic intelligence was a good predictor of communication scores for boys but not for girls. Verbal ability was no better a predictor for girls than boys. The single parent who has to assume the role and the responsibilities of both mother and father provides a different sex-role model for the child than that provided in the two-parent family.
