Swatton, P. – Educational Review, 1995
Analysis of a sample of 100 pupil scripts from a British Assessment of Performance Unit survey suggests that ability to read and interpret graphical data should not be seen as an independent process skill. Instead, hidden cognitive demands of assessment items require integrated understanding based on a sophisticated procedural model. (SK)

Wood, Simon; Romero, Pablo – Educational Technology & Society, 2010
Learner centred design methods highlight the importance of involving the stakeholders of the learning process (learners, teachers, educational researchers) at all stages of the design of educational applications and of refining the design through an iterative prototyping process. These methods have been used successfully when designing systems…

Wavering, Michael J. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1989
Determined is the logical reasoning necessary to construct line graphs including a straight line with a positive or negative slope and an exponentially increasing curve. The responses of subjects (grades 6-12) were classified into one of nine categories fitting with Piagetian operational structures. (Author/YP)

James, C. – Physics Education, 1988
Discusses the use of logarithm and reciprocal graphs in the college physics classroom. Provides examples, such as electrical conductivity, reliability function in the Weibull model, and the Clausius-Clapeyron equation for latent heat of vaporation. Shows graphs with weighting of points. (YP)

Salow, Robert; And Others – Physics Teacher, 1993
Describes an activity to determine whether the length of the yellow (warning) signal of a traffic light provides adequate time to stop or pass through the intersection. Discusses the necessary equations, mathematics, and subsequent graphs. (MVL)

Dori, Yehudit J.; Sasson, Irit – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 2008
The case-based computerized laboratory (CCL) is a chemistry learning environment that integrates computerized experiments with emphasis on scientific inquiry and comprehension of case studies. The research objective was to investigate chemical understanding and graphing skills of high school honors students via bidirectional visual and textual…

Brown, Helen – Science and Children, 1995
Presents a unit to investigate lemons and experience the real taste of a lemon that includes simple, enjoyable, and inexpensive activities that develop students' observation, prediction, measurement, and inference skills. Students also developed creative arts projects, explored mathematical concepts, and wrote stories about fruit. (NB)

Barton, Roy – School Science Review, 1997
Investigates pupils' abilities to interpret graphical information using a comparative study involving data-logging, conventional practical work, and a nonpractical equivalent. Concludes that the computer-based approach seemed to be particularly effective for younger and less-abled pupils. (Author/ASK)
