Rowland, Paul; Stuessy, Carol L. – 1987
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of two modes of computer-assisted instruction, simulation and tutorial, upon the ability of preservice elementary teachers to understand relationships between a number of concepts dealing with home energy. A number of instruments measuring various dimensions of learning style differences were…

Pirkle, Sheila Farrell; Pallrand, George J. – 1988
Research indicates that novice problem solvers represent and organize knowledge differently from experts. The novice engaged in problem solving activities is of interest to educators because efficient instruction reduces the differences between initial intuitive knowledge representations and the true concepts to be mastered. A particular cognitive…

Murray, Tom; And Others – 1988
This paper evaluates the strengths and limitations of a computer tutor designed to help students understand physics concepts. The tutor uses a teaching strategy called "bridging analogies" that previous research has demonstrated to be successful in one-to-one tutoring. The strategy is designed to remedy misconceptions by appealing to existing…

Fletcher, P.; Collins, M. A. J. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1987
Reports on a study designed to determine whether or not biology students were being disadvantaged by taking computer tests instead of written paper forms of the same tests. Results indicated that mean scores on computer-administered and written forms of the same test were approximately equivalent. (TW)
