Avraham Merzel; Efraim Yehuda Weissman; Nadav Katz; Igal Galili – Physical Review Physics Education Research, 2024
Teaching quantum physics (QP) to high school (HS) students is gaining momentum, necessitating the exploration of various effective methods. Specifically, the research on quantitative teaching methods is still in its early stages. Understanding the power of Dirac notation (DN) in teaching is crucial for grasping the complexities of QP, as it…

Soobard, Regina; Semilarski, Helen; Holbrook, Jack; Rannikmäe, Miia – Journal of Baltic Science Education, 2018
This research was based on the concern that students didn't see the need for the acquisition of science skills and knowledge perceived as important in relation to different society issues and the world of work. The aim was to determine gymnasium students perceived self-efficacy towards working life skills as well as science curriculum,…

Mudau, Awelani V. – EURASIA Journal of Mathematics, Science & Technology Education, 2016
The purpose of this paper is to present a conceptual framework for diagnosing teaching difficulties of a science topic in the science classroom. The development of the framework is presented as well as descriptions of the features of the framework. How the framework can be used is also elaborated? Furthermore, there is a detailed indication of an…

Stamovlasis, Dimitrios; Tsaparlis, Georgios – Science Education, 2012
In this study, we test an information-processing model (IPM) of problem solving in science education, namely the working memory overload model, by applying catastrophe theory. Changes in students' achievement were modeled as discontinuities within a cusp catastrophe model, where working memory capacity was implemented as asymmetry and the degree…

Peer reviewedTirosh, Dina; Stavy, Ruth – School Science and Mathematics, 1992
Reports a study to examine secondary school students' (n=200) responses to two figurally and spatially similar problems from mathematics and science that require different responses before and after instruction. Results indicated that most students gave the same response to both questions. Reasons for this pattern are discussed. (MDH)
