Butcher, James N.; Tellegen, Auke – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1978
Discusses methodological problems involving use of MMPI by reviewing past literature. Suggestions for improving research design are made. (Author/BEF)

Keane, Susan Phillips; Gibbs, Margaret – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
Tested the hypothesis that subjects with elevated MMPI profiles would exhibit qualitatively different word associations from those with normal MMPI profiles. Results are interpreted as demonstrating the construct validity of the Sc scale in that the more pathological the profile, the greater degree of cognitive disturbance exhibited. (Author)

Johnson, James H.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1980

Pritchard, David A.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1980
Concludes that there is no evidence for differential validity in the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) between racial subgroups and that black norms for the MMPI are premature. Criticism of these findings is also presented. (Author/BEF)

Bratt, Avery; And Others – 1985
The high incidence of reported posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among Vietnam veterans has prompted researchers to search for reliable assessment and treatment procedures for this disorder. Although some encouraging preliminary data on the use of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) have been obtained, it is uncertain if this…

Holmes, Cooper B.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1982
Assessed five alcoholism scales derived from the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory for their ability to classify accurately alcoholics and non-alcoholic psychiatric patients. The alcoholic group was divided into self-committed and court-committed. Depending on how the data were treated, found only one, or none of the scales accurate.…

Butcher, James N.; And Others – Psychological Assessment, 1995
Methodological considerations in conducting research on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2), the most widely used clinical personality instrument, are reviewed, with reference to the original MMPI and the version for adolescents (MMPI-A). Potential pitfalls in personality testing and personality assessment research are…

This paper reviews the methods and findings of published research on the validity of police selection procedures. As a preface to the review, the typical police officer selection process is briefly described. Several common methodological deficiencies of the validation research are identified and discussed in detail: (1) use of past-selection…
