Relocation is often seen as a high-risk stress for the elderly. The present study compared relatively healthy older people moving voluntarily with nonmovers. An examination of behavioral test performance in a pre-post design revealed no decrement in function among those who changed residence. (Author)

Forty-two mentally retarded adults (mean age 33 years) from three state schools were studied for almost four years, from the time they were resettled at a community residence in a large city, in order to evaluate whether changes in behavior, attitudes, and social relationships would occur as a result of deinstitutionalization.
