Peer reviewedBufford, Rodger K. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1971
Reports three experiments conducted to investigate factors controlling performance of nonreinforced verbal imitation. (WY)
Descriptors: Discrimination Learning, Graphs, Imitation, Performance Factors
Peer reviewedBandura, Albert; Barab, Peter G. – Developmental Psychology, 1971
Findings of the present experiment reveal that discrimination processes play an influential role in nonreinforced imitation in severly retarded children. (WY)
Descriptors: Discrimination Learning, Handicapped Children, Imitation, Mental Retardation
Peer reviewedRice, Marine E. – Developmental Psychology, 1976
This study assessed the adequacy of Gewirtz's interpretation of vicarious reinforcement and examined the development of responsiveness to vicarious reinforcement in an experiment in which 98 children (21/2-5 years) performed a discrimination problem while being exposed to a model who was either rewarded or punished on each trial. (SB)
Descriptors: Discrimination Learning, Early Childhood Education, Imitation, Operant Conditioning
Parton, David A. – J Exp Child Psychol, 1970
A brief report of this research was presented at the 1967 biennial meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development. (MH)
Descriptors: Behavior Theories, Discrimination Learning, Imitation, Kindergarten Children
Peer reviewedSteinman, Warren M. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1970
The results of three experiments involving 6 young children suggest that the generalized imitation effect may not be entirely due to the child's inability to discriminate reinforced fron nonreinforced occasions. Instructional and social variables may strongly influence the generalized imitation effect. (WY)
Descriptors: Conditioning, Discrimination Learning, Imitation, Individual Instruction
Peer reviewedFein, Greta G. – Developmental Psychology, 1973
A four choice discrimination problem was used to examine imitative behavior in children matched in mental age but differing in chronological age. The finding that older children imitated less than younger children is discussed in terms of socialization. (DP)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Cognitive Development, Discrimination Learning, Elementary School Students
Peer reviewedBucher, Bradley – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1973
Results imply that sets of instructions may form a response class, with characteristics similar to those found in studies of generalized imitation. (Author)
