This present study investigates the effects of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on teachers and school counselors during a disruptive situation. A four-week modified MBSR program was held with 36 school counselors and teachers across the nation during the global pandemic. A questionnaire and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) were conducted prior to the start of the program. During the four-weeks, participants were asked to provide weekly with their reflections. After the MBSR program, four focus groups and PSS were conducted with all participants to explore their experience with the program, impact on stress levels, barriers with implementing mindfulness practices, and possible use of the mindfulness techniques in their school building. A thematic analysis approach was used to derive central themes from the focus groups. The research provides evidence that teachers and schools counselors reported an increase in emotional regulation, were more open to teaching mindfulness to their students, identified barriers in keeping mindfulness practices, and shared that the program helped to manage stress during disruptive situations. Further research is necessary to validate the results of this explorative study. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
