Yoga for PE: Engaging High School Students Physically and Mentally
Otto, Victoria
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, v85 n2 p19-23 2014
The administration and community used to place little or no value on physical education and attendance, and attitudes toward our profession were stereotypical and disrespectful. Yet, at some level, there were people quietly longing for a change. This article describes how the author used her passion for yoga to win over her students and, eventually, the school administration. She describes how the physical education department now allows each teacher to teach his or her specific passion as "resident experts," and how the teachers work together to provide more interesting units and teaching approaches.
