The handbook provides information concerning instructional and training programs for handicapped (educable, trainable, multihandicapped, speech handicapped, or homebound) children within a Wisconsin regional district (Cooperative Educational Service Agency) consisting of 17 local school districts. Noted is the program's philosophy of providing equal educational opportunities to all handicapped students and maximum student contact with regular grade pupils. Terms such as educable mentally retarded and learning disability are defined. Outlined are admission procedures for each of the special programs. Listed are area agencies such as county mental health centers and sheltered workshops that offer assistance to handicapped persons. Educational objectives are listed in terms of 12 persisting life situations such as learning to communicate ideas and learning to travel and move about. Provided in relation to each school district is information on the special classes available, location of available classes, and name of person to contact about special classes. The final section lists all services provided by the regional district during 1972-73 including special education classes, consultant and coordination services, and special education transportation.
