Alexander Natanzon; Evgeny Frishman – European Journal of Physics Education, 2021
In this article we show that the electrostatic field intensity of a uniformly charged straight line equals that of the corresponding arc of a circle charged with the same linear density. This new method greatly simplifies the calculation of the electrostatic field of a system consisting of uniformly charged straight lines.

Degrande, Tine; Verschaffel, Lieven; Van Dooren, Wim – Educational Studies in Mathematics, 2020
Previous research demonstrated that some children inappropriately solve multiplicative missing-value word problems additively, while others inappropriately solve additive missing-value word problems multiplicatively. Besides lacking skills, children's preference for additive or multiplicative relations has been shown to contribute to those errors.…

From an early age, understanding proportional reasoning is a fundamental pillar in mathematics education, and therefore, teachers should have a thorough knowledge of it. Despite its significance, there are few studies that analyse the difficulties that student teachers have in understanding proportionality, and even less so inverse…

Kenney, Rachael; An, Tuyin; Kim, Sung-Hee; Uhan, Nelson A.; Yi, Ji Soo; Shamsul, Aiman – International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education, 2020
In linear programming, many students find it difficult to translate a verbal description of a problem into a valid mathematical model. To better understand this, we examine the existing characteristics of college engineering students' errors across linear programming (LP) problems. We examined textbooks to identify the types of problems typically…

Waite, Chelsea – Childhood Education, 2020
While project-based learning can be traced back to centuries-old theory, new research shows how it is linked to a variety of efforts for change in innovative schools.

Thomas Gerhard Dorsch – ProQuest LLC, 2020
This study stemmed from the need to develop an instrument for assessing the characteristics of an organization in terms of internal consistency of leadership behavior, interaction-influences between colleagues, communication processes, and employee motivation in institutions of post-secondary education. Commonly used surveys for educational…

Noordegraaf-Eelens, Liesbeth; Kloeg, Julien; Noordzij, Gera – Advances in Health Sciences Education, 2019
Problem-based learning (PBL) is an innovative educational approach that dates back to the 1960s. However, the twenty-first century goal of sustainable education poses a challenge to PBL, especially as it relates to isolation. Here we discuss the underlying issue of isolation in three respects. First, the information-processing model of PBL depends…

Anders Kristian Munk; Anders Koed Madsen; Mathieu Jacomy – New Perspectives on Learning and Instruction, 2019
Data sprints have emerged as a popular way to involve stakeholders in datawork. In this chapter we discuss what it takes to turn a sprint into a productive situation of inquiry (in the sense of Dewey, 1938). We argue that sprint organizers must work actively to counteract an otherwise docile setting where the preference for agreement between…

Supanun Pimdee; Thapanee Seechaliao – Journal of Education and Learning, 2025
The research objectives were to 1) study the current conditions, problems, and good practices regarding teaching and learning 2) develop a blended instructional model using problem-based learning with graphic organizers to enhance systems thinking skills in computational science for students in lower secondary school and 3) study the results of…

Kartini Herlina; Abdurrahman Abdurrahman; Ahmad Naufal Umam; Ayu Nurjanah; Ghani Fadhil Rabbani; Ficha Aulia Indah Pratiwi – Journal of Technology and Science Education, 2025
Nowadays, physics learning in the classroom should no longer only focus on achieving academics. It must prepare students to face challenges in the future. One of the abilities that are important for learners is problem solving, and the problem-solving ability that is becoming increasingly important in today's digital era is computational thinking…

Yu-Jen Sie; Kuen-Yi Lin – Journal of Baltic Science Education, 2025
Project-based learning (PBL) plays a critical role in fostering interdisciplinary integration within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. However, its complexity often hinders students' ability to apply knowledge and solve problems, particularly in environments that lack psychological and cognitive support. This…

Functional thinking is essential for maritime vocational college students, particularly when solving mathematical problems related to navigation safety. However, limited studies have explored functional thinking among vocational maritime students. This study aims to explore the functional thinking processes of maritime vocational college students…

Mathias Norqvist; Bert Jonsson; Johan Lithner – Educational Studies in Mathematics, 2025
In mathematics classrooms, it is common practice to work through a series of comparable tasks provided in a textbook. A central question in mathematics education is if tasks should be accompanied with solution methods, or if students should construct the solutions themselves. To explore the impact of these two task designs on student behavior…

Research has shown there are algebra concepts elementary teachers can introduce that help prepare elementary students for the eventual transition to algebra (e.g., the relational interpretation of the equal sign). "Early algebra" refers to the use of informal approaches to introduce such concepts to elementary students. "Strip…
