Çibik, Naz Fulya; Boz-Yaman, Burçak – Science Activities: Projects and Curriculum Ideas in STEM Classrooms, 2022
The purpose of this paper is to integrate mathematical modeling and ecology by presenting an activity involving an authentic environmental problem, which is called "Pine Processionary Caterpillars Invasion." Adopting Mathematical Modeling and Education for Climate Action (EfCA) approaches, it was aimed to encourage pre-service teachers…

Brückler, Franka Miriam; Milin Šipuš, Željka – European Journal of Science and Mathematics Education, 2023
During the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic had a secondary effect of increased media content loaded with mathematical, often probabilistic information (and misinformation). Our exploratory study investigates the probabilistic intuitions, misconceptions, biases, and fallacies in conditional probability reasoning of mathematics teacher…

Duke, Daniel L. – Journal of Research on Leadership Education, 2019
Should the topic of judgment have a place in the preparation and development of school leaders? This question serves as the focus for an examination of the nature of judgment and obstacles to good judgment. Judgment is defined as the ability to arrive at and make a choice when faced with incomplete information, uncertain conditions, and/or…

Tabacu, Lucia M.; Watson, Silvana Maria; Chezar, Laura C.; Gable, Robert; Oliveira, Célia R.; Lopes, João – Preventing School Failure, 2020
We examined the type of errors on multiplication and division computation problems of 326 rising fifth graders enrolled in four elementary schools in Northern Portugal. We further examined whether there was a difference in the number of errors across age and whether there was an association between students' performance on number knowledge and…

Chitpin, Stephanie – International Journal of Educational Management, 2017
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how associationism mistakenly assumes that direct experience is possible; that is, there is expectation-free observation and association without prior expectation. Thus, associationism assumes that learning involves the absorption of information from the environment itself. However, contrary…

Hussain, Alaa Eddin; Khuddro, Ahmad – Advances in Language and Literary Studies, 2016
The present research work deals with subtitling errors encountered by simulators and proof-readers. The resultant work is of significant contribution to problem decision makings in the field of quality assessment of audiovisual translation (AVT). The outcome of this paper is the result of accumulated working experience in this domain. The relevant…

McCulloch, Allison W.; Kenney, Rachael H.; Keene, Karen Allen – North American Chapter of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education, 2011
This paper reports on a mixed methods study of 111 AP calculus students' self-reports of their graphing calculator use, comfort, and rationale when choosing between mathematical solutions produced with and without a graphing calculator. [For the complete proceedings, see ED585874.]

Wu, Jianzhong; Axelrod, Robert – Journal of Conflict Resolution, 1995
Noise in the form of random errors arising from choices is a common problem. Examined three different approaches for coping with noise. Found that reciprocity works, provided it is accompanied by generosity or contrition. Changing one's choice after a poor outcome was not seen as helpful. Other points are discussed. (RJM)

Gable, Robert A.; And Others – Teaching Exceptional Children, 1993
This article outlines the last step in a five-step process for preparing students to engage in a systematic mathematics problem-solving and decision-making process. The lesson plan teaches students to reread the problem, reexamine the question, check selection of operation, and recheck calculations and compare answers. (JDD)

Novotna, Jarmila, Ed.; Moraova, Hana, Ed.; Kratka, Magdalena, Ed.; Stehlikova, Nad'a, Ed. – International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education, 2006
This volume of the 30th annual proceedings of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education conference presents: plenary panel papers; research forum papers; short oral communication papers; and poster presentation papers from the meeting. Information relating to discussion groups and working sessions is also provided.…
