Ott, Mary Diederich – Research in Higher Education, 1988
Logistic regression was employed to analyze predictors of academic performance (academic dismissal versus satisfactory performance) for first-time freshmen after one semester in an eastern state university. The analyses indicated that academic performance was highly related to high school academic grade point average. (Author/MLW)

Lindgren, Scott D. And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Examined cognitive and personality patterns of 84 court-referred adolescents to identify predictors of recurrent delinquent behavior. It was found that continued behavioral problems at follow-up were more likely in adolescents with discrepancies between Verbal and Performance intelligence quotient or large differences between "neurotic" and…

Sawyer, Richard – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1986
This study was designed to determine whether adjustments for the differential prediction observed among sex, racial/ethnic, or age subgroups in one freshman class at a college could be used to improve prediction accuracy for these subgroups in future freshman classes. (Author/LMO)
Descriptors: College Freshmen, Error of Measurement, Grade Prediction, Higher Education
Malstrom, Eric M.; And Others – Engineering Education, 1984
Presents results of a study to evaluate a model that indicates which factors are most important in predicting performance in engineering graduate programs. Variables tested include honors won, undergraduate grade point, full/part time student, age, marital status, children, undergraduate institution excellence, and two levels of work experience.…

de Rome, Elizabeth; Lewin, Terry – Higher Education, 1984
A study examined whether information about student approaches to making their course choices could have been used to identify those who subsequently changed or withdrew from their courses. Multivariate analysis indicated that combinations of the information could discriminate between students who persisted and those who withdrew. (Author/MLW)
Descriptors: Academic Persistence, College Environment, Higher Education, Predictive Measurement
Payne, David A.; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1973
Assesses the effectiveness of a factored biographical inventory in predicting freshman GPAs, and suggests that biodata be considered in college selection. (Author/JN)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Biographical Inventories, College Choice, College Freshmen

Holly, Keith A.; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1973
The Structure-of-Intellect Tests are shown to represent promising alternatives to the traditional commercial standardized tests now widely used in predicting success in modern algebra. (Author/NE)

Tucker, Ledyard R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1973
The inter-battery factor analysis model for predictive systems appears to offer a useful formalization of these systems and provides some guides for the development of the system. (Author)

Zimmerman, Wayne D.; And Others – Educ Psychol Meas, 1970
Five scales of 25 items each were developed to represent five psychological constructs isolated by factor analysis from survey responses. (Author/ES)

Brooks, C. Michael; And Others – Journal of Medical Education, 1981
A study to investigate the predictive validity of the New Medical College Admission Test, which is part of a longitudinal admissions research project at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, is described. The study serves a local purpose and also complements research conducted by the AAMC. (MLW)

Sherman, Julia A. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1980
Eighth-grade scores for 140 females and 115 males on three cognitive tests and the Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitudes Scales were used to predict mathematics grades 1-3 years later. In addition to mathematics achievement, significant relationships were confirmed for spatial visualization and confidence in learning mathematics. (Author/GDC)

Cook, Daniel W. – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1980
Presents a method to improve client classification. Reviews clinical prediction models and statistical prediction issues. In classifying clients for remedial services, utility of the prediction scheme depends on gains accrued by its use over program base rates and relative cost. This assumes that differential treatments parallel diagnostic…
