Gastright, Joseph F. – 1974
An investigation was undertaken of the intercorrelations among residuals obtained by applying regression techniques under two conditions: (1) mean sixth-grade Metropolitan Achievement Test reading scores predicted by mean second-grade Stanford Achievement Test reading scores, and (2) mean sixth-grade reading scores predicted by mean second-grade…

Novick, Melvin R.; And Others – 1971
The feasibility and effectiveness of a Bayesian method for estimating regressions in m groups is studied by application of the method to data from the Basic Research Service of The American College Testing Program. Evidence supports the belief that in many testing applications the collateral information obtained from each subset of m-1 colleges…

Gastright, Joseph F. – 1977
School unit residuals from multiple regression predictions of sixth-grade reading scores were developed for a population of 66 elementary schools, using Dyer's Method II (matched longitudinal data) and Method III (unmatched longitudinal data). The input variable sets were (1) previous achievement data alone, (2) achievement data and nonachievement…

Haney, Russell; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Success of student nurses from three ethnic groups on a state board certification examination was predicted from study behavior, course grade point average and standardized achievement tests administered prior to nurse training. The achievement tests proved to be the best predictors across groups. (Author/JKS)

Morris, John D.; Guertin, Wilson H. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1977
Common factor scores were compared to unfactored data-level variables as predictors in terms of the correlation of a criterion with the predicted value in multiple regression equations applied to replication (cross-validation) samples. (Editor)

Abedi, Jamal; Benkin, Ellen – Research in Higher Education, 1987
Data from the National Research Council's Doctorate Records File extract prepared for UCLA indicated that source of support was the most important variable in predicting time to doctorate. Following source of support were postdoctoral plans, number of dependents, sex, and field of study. (Author/MLW)

Garland, Kathleen; Rike, Galen E. – Journal of Education for Library and Information Science, 1987
This study examined the relationship between scholarly publication by faculty teaching in library and information science programs and 18 selected variables. Six variables were found to be predictors of faculty productivity: highest degree earned, size of faculty, years elapsed from bachelors's to highest degree, program type, prestige of program,…

Aamodt, Michael G.; Kimbrough, Wilson W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
Four methods were used to weight predictors associated with a Resident Assistant job: (1) rank order weights; (2) unit weights; (3) critical incident weights; and (4) regression weights. A cross-validation was also done. Most weighting methods were highly related. No method was superior in terms of protection from validity shrinkage. (GDC)

Bennett, Thomas S.; Welsh, M. Cay – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
The ratings of the Achievement and Intellectual Screening scales of the Personality Inventory for Children (PIC) are compared with scores on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) and the Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT) to determine the efficacy of using the PIC as an index of children's performance on such measures.…

Cullen, Thomas J.; And Others – Journal of Medical Education, 1980
The predictive validity of the new Medical College Admission Test as it relates to end-of-quarter examinations in anatomy, histology, physiology, biochemistry, and "ages of man" is presented. Results indicate that the Science Knowledge assessment areas of chemistry and physics and the Science Problems subtest were most useful in…

Sheehan, Janet K.; Han, Tianqi – Mid-Western Educational Researcher, 1996
Contrasts aptitude by treatment interaction (ATI) and hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) methods for making cross-level inferences between individual-level and group-level factors in school effectiveness research. Recommends HLM when intraclass correlations are high. ATI is suitable when intraclass correlations are low, but partitioning the…

Nebebe, Fassil; Stroud, T. W. F. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1988
Bayesian and empirical Bayes approaches to shrinkage estimation of regression coefficients and uses of these in prediction (i.e., analyzing intelligence test data of children with learning problems) are investigated. The two methods are consistently better at predicting response variables than are either least squares or least absolute deviations.…

Thompson, Ross A.; Zamboanga, Byron L. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 2004
Earlier research has shown that prior knowledge of psychology is positively associated with course achievement. But are these effects attributable to preexisting differences in general ability or aptitude? The authors administered 2 pretests to 353 students early in an introductory psychology course and obtained measures of general student…

Yunusova, Yana; Weismer, Gary; Kent, Ray D.; Rusche, Nicole M. – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 2005
Purpose: This study was designed to determine whether within-speaker fluctuations in speech intelligibility occurred among speakers with dysarthria who produced a reading passage, and, if they did, whether selected linguistic and acoustic variables predicted the variations in speech intelligibility. Method: Participants with dysarthria included a…

Bruder, Mary Beth; Dunst, Carl J. – Journal of the American Academy of Special Education Professionals, 2007
The influence of six service coordination variables on the number, types, and intensity of early intervention services was examined in a study of 346 IDEA Part C program participants in 46 states. The study and selection of the predictor and criterion variables was guided by both previous research and current beliefs about the role service…
