Balint, Marilyn – 1988
A study examined the feasibility of using the Comprehensive Nursing Achievement Test as a predictor of nursing students' eventual success on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). The predictive validity of other factors, such as age, college entrance test scores, and grades in second-year nursing courses, was also examined.…

Culbertson, William C.; Docherty, Edward M., Jr. – 1980
Learning disabled, emotionally disturbed, and unclassified male students originally tested with the Elizur Test of Psycho-Organicity (ETPO) when they were 6 to 11 years of age (time 1), were reassessed four years later (time 2) with the same instrument. Examinees were required to duplicate geometric and colored block designs, and to memorize five…

Chase, Clinton I.; Johnson, Judith J. – 1980
The initial steps necessary for constructing an analogies test are described. Basic mathematics being the context, the aim of the test is to predict student performance in research statistics courses characteristic of graduate education and social science programs. Items involving analogies in a quantitative context were built, sorted into two…

Ayres, Joe; Miura, Steven Y. – 1979
The conceptual, construct, and predictive validity of available instruments for coding relational control is considered in this paper. It approaches conceptual validity by offering a logical analysis that compares each instrument with formative ideas in interactional theory. It then advances data concerning the construct and predictive validity of…

The scores of 537 14-year-old students in Nigeria on the Raven Progressive Matrices were correlated with their scores on an achievement test, to provide an estimate of the predictive validity of the Raven. Results indicated low validity for this usage. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedTruckenmiller, James L. – Behavioral Disorders, 1978
The HEW National Strategy for Youth Development Model (OYD), which serves as a basis from which to predict associations among various dimensions of juvenile delinquency, was empirically tested in a sample of 5,994 12 to 19-year-olds by means of several self-reported scales measuring OYD variables. (Author/DLS)

Peer reviewedCarlyn, Marcia – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1977
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator is a self-report inventory developed to measure variables in Carl Jung's personality typology. The four personality scales measured by the instrument, and the scoring process are described, and an extensive review of the intercorrelation, reliability, and validity research is presented. (Author/MV)

Peer reviewedTracey, Terence J.; Sedlacek, William E. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1987
In 1979 and 1980, college freshmen (N=1766) completed the Noncognitive Questionnaire (NCQ). The validity of the NCQ in predicting graduation status after five and six years was assessed for Black and White students. Results indicated that the noncognitive dimensions measured by the NCQ were significantly related to graduation but the traditional…

Peer reviewedVikan, Arne – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 1985
Prevalence estimates of psychiatric disorders in 10-year-old rural Norwegian children were based on responses to symptom checklists distributed to parents and teachers. Parents' index showed highest validity and was used as a basis for prevalence estimates. Properties of the index were shown to be sample specific. (Author/AS)

The Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test Revised (PPVT-R) and the Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS) (reading, mathematics, and language subtests) were administered to 61 elementary school students in semi-rural Louisiana. Moderate positive correlations were found between PPVT-R scores and all CTBS subtests except mathematics computation. (GDC)

The relative predictive validity of girls' and boys' success in algebra is examined. Eighth-grade students completed the Orleans-Hanna Algebra Prognosis Test. These prognosis test scores were correlated with grades that students subsequently earned in first-year algebra. Algebra grades of girls proved to be the more predictable. (Author/DWH)
