Peer reviewedMorgan, Robert G.; And Others – Journal of Education for Business, 1985
A study was conducted to find some quantitative predictors of student success in Intermediate Accounting I that an advisor can use as an aid in student counseling. The AICPA Level I Form C test and the average grade in principles courses proved to be reasonable predictors of success. (CT)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Accounting, Counseling Techniques, Higher Education
Peer reviewedLinn, Robert L. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1984
The common approach to studies of predictive bias is analyzed within the context of a conceptual model in which predictors and criterion measures are viewed as fallible indicators of idealized qualifications. (Author/PN)
Descriptors: Certification, Models, Predictive Measurement, Predictive Validity
Peer reviewedO'Neil, James M.; Magoon, Thomas M. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1977
A sample of male Investigative subjects (N=171) who completed the SDS as freshmen in 1970 was sent a questionnaire four years later. Results indicated that, for Investigative-type freshman males, the SDS has moderately high efficiency in predicting, four years later, their ultimate major and their immediate and future vocational plans. (Author)

Peer reviewedGross, Alan L. – Psychometrika, 1973
Expressions for the expected value, density, and distribution function (DF) of GS (gain from selection) are derived and studied in terms of sample size, number of predictors, and the prior distribution assigned to the population multiple correlation. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, College Admission, Item Sampling, Predictive Measurement
Peer reviewedQuirk, Thomas J.; And Others – Review of Educational Research, 1973
Background and purposes of the National Teacher Examinations (NTE) and the hazards of combining data on these tests in research studies are discussed; the predictive validity of the NTE with in-service teachers is analyzed. Suggestions are made for closer correlation between rating scales and what the standardized tests themselves attempt to…

Peer reviewedCampbell, Hugh; Ignizio, James P. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1972
Predictions using linear programing are less biased by extreme cases and thus offer a more valid estimate of expected student performance than that given by a least squares approach. (Authors/MB)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, College Entrance Examinations, Comparative Analysis, Linear Programing
Miller, Wilma H. – Illinois School Research, 1972
To individualize instruction in reading, a system of diagnostic measures must be used to establish needs areas. Author examines a number of such measures and proposes subsequent study culminating in a Predictive Index. (Editor/MB)
Descriptors: Diagnostic Tests, Evaluation, Grade 1, Measurement Instruments
Peer reviewedKaufman, Alan S.; Kaufman, Nadeen L. – Child Development, 1972
Results offer empirical support to Ilg and Ames's claim that the Gesell battery is an excellent predictor of school readiness. The close similarity of the Piaget and Gesell tests accords well with previous findings that the two tests have much in common. (Authors/MB)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Comparative Analysis, Intelligence Tests, Predictive Measurement
Halinski, Ronald S.; Feldt, Leonard S. – J Educ Meas, 1970
Four commonly employed procedures were repeatedly applied to computer-simulated samples to provide comparative data pertaining to two questions: (a) which procedure can be expected to produce and equation that yields the most accurate predictions for the population, and (b) which procedure is most likely to identify the optimal set of independent…

Peer reviewedGardner, Don E. – Research in Higher Education, 1981
The merits of double exponential smoothing are discussed relative to other types of pattern-based enrollment forecasting methods. The basic assumptions and formulas for its use are outlined. The difficulties associated with selecting an appropriate weight factor are discussed, and the potential effect on prediction results is illustrated.…

Peer reviewedBusch, Robert F. – Learning Disability Quarterly, 1980
The study was designed to determine the best combination of tests or subtests in a research battery which, when administered to beginning first grade students (N=1,052), would enable the most efficient prediction of reading achievement. (Author/SBH)
Descriptors: Exceptional Child Research, Grade 1, Predictive Measurement, Predictive Validity
Hall, Michael C. – Quarterly Review of Distance Education, 2009
This article presents the results of a factor analysis on the distance education surveys "Is Online Learning Right for Me?" and "What Technical Skills Do I Need?" Both surveys are 15-question, forced response, self-scoring guides that have face validity for individual traits and skills believed to contribute to potential success in an…

Reeve, Charlie L.; Charles, Jennifer E. – Intelligence, 2008
The current study examines the views of experts in the science of mental abilities about the primacy and uniqueness of "g" and the social implications of ability testing, and compares their responses to the views of a group of non-expert psychologists. Results indicate expert consensus that "g" is an important, non-trivial determinant (or at least…

Peer reviewedAnd Others; Townsend, J. William – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1974
The present study investigated the efficiency of various existing measures, mainly psychological tests, for predicting job performance of mentally retarded workers in a sheltered occupational shop. Results indicated that existing measures are predictive of performance on some but not all jobs in a sheltered workshop. (Author)
Descriptors: Mental Retardation, Moderate Mental Retardation, Predictive Measurement, Predictive Validity
DeNisi, Angelo S.; And Others – 1976
The Position Analysis Questionnaire (PAQ), a structured job analysis questionnaire that provides for the analysis for individual jobs in terms of 187 job elements, has been found in previous studies to be useful as the basis for predicting the mean test scores of incumbents on a sample of jobs in terms of the nine tests of the General Aptitude…
