Milliron, Mark David; Wilson, Cynthia
Change, v36 n6 p52 Nov-Dec 2004
The modern comprehensive community college has become a powerful learning nexus, an essential educational player in cities, counties, states, and nations. Community colleges are distinct and necessary players in a strong education community. Their missions are diverse, essential, and supportive of economic, educational, and social development. If they did not exist, many observers have noted, they would have to be invented. The sections of this article explore the important roles community colleges play and provide a broad look at the trends in this sector. Along the way, the article points to key resources for information about this dynamic, diverse, and distinct educational sector.
