Questions were asked concerning faculty status, factors influencing practice location decisions, and perceived advantages of association with a medical education center. Information on the backgrounds of about 3,000 certified dermatologists listed in the Directory of Medical Specialists was cross-tabulated by computer during 1976. Among the four variables studied--state of birth, medical education, internship, and residency occurred--the strongest influence on location was residency training. (LBH)

A survey of the number and distribution of women physicians in a nonmetropolitan area of Illinois is discussed. Graduates of foreign medical schools, the majority with physician relatives also from foreign schools, were found to constitute a sizable portion of the women physician pool in the smallest counties. Physicians' decisions on where to locate after they completed their training were examined by determining where a state's practicing physicians came from and whether physicians who are trained in a state practice in that state.
