Studied 46 alcoholics one year upon discharge from a residential treatment program based on transactional analysis. Results showed 25 were abstinent and the other 21 were not drinking heavily. Analysis suggested that the abstinent persons had somewhat higher self-esteem and were slightly freer in expression of feelings. (JAC)

Previous research found that an innovative educational program had a negative effect on participants' personality development. For the replication, control subjects increased their scores on three out of 19 scales while program praticipants' scores remained the same.
