Freedle, Agata; Wahman, Charis L. – Topics in Early Childhood Special Education, 2022
Raising a young child with challenging behavior can have a significant impact on families' well-being and family functioning. Snarr, Jeffery D.; Slep, Amy M. Smith; Grande, Vincent P. – Psychological Assessment, 2009
Attributional theory and empirical evidence suggest that a tendency to make stable, global self-causal attributions for undesirable events is associated with negative outcomes. However, existing self-report measures of parental attributions do not account for the possibility that dysfunctional parent-causal attributions for child misbehavior might…

Manders, Willeke A.; Janssens, Jan M. A. M.; Cook, William L.; Oud, Johan H. L.; De Bruyn, Eric E. J.; Scholte, Ron H. J. – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 2009
Considerable research has focused on the reliability and validity of informant reports of family behavior, especially maternal reports of adolescent problem behavior. None of these studies, however, has based their orientation on a theoretical model of interpersonal perception. In this study we used the social relations model (SRM) to examine…

Peer reviewedRobinson, Elizabeth A.; Eyberg, Sheila M. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1981
Problem-child families and normal families were classified using the dyadic parent-child interaction coding system (DPICS). The DPICS was found to be a reliable, clinically practical research instrument that correctly classified 94 percent of the families and predicted 64 percent of the variance in parent report of home behavior problems. Dunlap, Glen; Ester, Tera; Langhans, Sherri; Fox, Lise – Journal of Early Intervention, 2006
This study was conducted to examine the effects of functional communication training when used by mothers to address the serious challenging behaviors of toddlers. Multiple baseline (across home routines) designs were used with two mother-child dyads. The data showed mothers used the procedures correctly and interventions produced reductions in…

Peer reviewedMoore, Ginger A.; Cohn, Jeffrey F.; Campbell, Susan B. – Developmental Psychology, 2001
Investigated stability and change in infant affective responses to still-face interaction, impact of maternal depression, and whether infant responses predicted toddler problem behaviors. Found stable individual differences in gazing away and rates of negative affect. Gazing away increased over time. Mothers' current depressive symptoms and…
