Houssart, Jenny; Evens, Hilary – International Journal of Research & Method in Education, 2011
This article explores theoretical and methodological issues associated with task-based interviews conducted with pairs of children. Wilson, Margaret Patricia – 1973
The effects of instructional variables and individual differences upon structural learning tasks were studied. Eighty college students were given pretasks to test mathematical problem solving and paired-associate (PA) learning skills. Each subject was then given two PA learning tasks presented in a study-test format. Kinship terms served as…

Hanley, Gerald L.; Morrison, H. William – 1984
Research suggests that when subjects are given a rule as to how to translate auditory or verbal information into images, the images have many common characteristics with cognitive representations derived from visual perceptions. This experiment examined the process of cognitive integration and the similarities and differences between how imagined…

Peer reviewedCox, William F., Jr. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1978
To detect the underlying structural relationship or chain among certain memorized pairs, two groups of undergraduates verbally reordered previously memorized pairs of either concrete or abstract nouns. The superior performance of the concrete word subjects was attributed to the differential effect of imaginal versus verbal encoding. (Author/CP)

Canobi, Katherine H. – Cognitive Development, 2004
Relations among patterns of conceptual and procedural knowledge and grade were examined in 90 six- to eight-year-olds in order to explore addition and subtraction development. Conceptual knowledge was assessed by examining children's responses to pairs of problems reflecting various part-whole relations. Children solved related problems as part of…

Seidel, Robert J.; Hunter, Harold G. – International Review of Applied Psychology, 1970
Research was undertaken to establish guidelines for applying programed instruction to training courses in which rules and principles must be learned. The research vehicle was a portion of a course using automated instruction to teach computer programing.
