Building and Sustaining Culture in a Remote Work Environment in a Statewide Educational Regulatory Agency
Joshua Kirk Shook
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of Georgia
The purpose of this action research study was to examine how leaders can build and sustain organizational culture in a remote work environment in a statewide educational regulatory agency. The study addressed how leaders can implement strategies to build and sustain culture in a remote work environment with fidelity with the goal of improved job satisfaction, morale, and retention while maintaining high-performance standards. Action research participants' perceptions were used to determine the impact of interventions on their job satisfaction, morale, and turnover intention. The study used organizational culture theory as the underlying theory for the study and used the action research process to formalize culture in the agency (Cycle 1) and develop ways to better disseminate culture in the agency (Cycle 2). The findings illustrated that a supportive environment, characterized by flexibility, collaboration, and opportunities for professional growth; leader actions, including providing clear direction and expectations; and involving more staff members in decision-making processes helped to build and sustain organizational culture in a remote work environment.
