Luskin, Bernard J. – T.H.E. Journal, 1996
Considers the psychology of multimedia. Topics include software development, including decisions about sound and image quality; theories of multiple intelligences; the psychology of learning; a model that includes semantics, semiotics, and synthetics; and the impact of media psychology on the use of multimedia for learning. Drasgow, Fritz; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1995
This study examined how well current software implementations of four polytomous item response theory models fit several multiple-choice tests. The main conclusion is that fitting polytomous item response models to multiple-choice item responses is more complex than fitting the three-parameter logistic model to dichotomously scored responses. Bartholomew, L. K.; Shegog, R.; Parcel, G. S.; Gold, R. S.; Fernandez, M.; Czyzewski, D. I.; Sockrider, M. M.; Berlin, N. – Patient Education and Counseling, 2000
Describes the development of the Watch, Discover, Think, and Act asthma self-management computer program for inner-city children with asthma. The intervention focuses on teaching two categories of behaviors: asthma specific behaviors such as taking preventive medication, and self-regulatory processes such as monitoring symptoms and solving asthma…

The increasing complexity of human body models enabled by advances in diagnostic imaging, computing, and growing knowledge calls for the development of a new generation of systems for intelligent exploration of these models. Here, we introduce a novel paradigm for the exploration of digital body models illustrating cerebral vasculature. It enables…

Najjar, Mehdi – International Journal of Distance Education Technologies, 2008
Despite a growing development of virtual laboratories which use the advantages of multimedia and Internet for distance education, learning by means of such tutorial tools would be more effective if they were specifically tailored to each student needs. The virtual teaching process would be well adapted if an artificial tutor can identify the…

Custer, Michael; Omar, Md Hafidz; Pomplun, Mark – Applied Measurement in Education, 2006
This study compared vertical scaling results for the Rasch model from BILOG-MG and WINSTEPS. The item and ability parameters for the simulated vocabulary tests were scaled across 11 grades; kindergarten through 10th. Data were based on real data and were simulated under normal and skewed distribution assumptions. WINSTEPS and BILOG-MG were each…

Schumacker, Randall E. – Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2006
Amos 5.0 (Arbuckle, 2003) permits exploratory specification searches for the best theoretical model given an initial model using the following fit function criteria: chi-square (C), chi-square--df (C--df), Akaike Information Criteria (AIC), Browne-Cudeck criterion (BCC), Bayes Information Criterion (BIC) , chi-square divided by the degrees of…

Shellnut, Bonnie; Savage, Timothy; Knowlton, Allie – 1998
This paper describes how a Wayne State University (Michigan) multimedia design team is applying Keller's ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction) Model of Motivational Design to the entire process of design, development, and evaluation of multimedia courseware. The ARCS Model has been applied to the prototype module and is being…

Carlson, Patricia A. – 1998
This paper reflects on the author's participation in two government-sponsored educational software development projects that used a holistic design paradigm in which classroom formative assessment and teacher input played a critical role in the development process. The two project were: R-WISE (Reading and Writing in a Supportive Environment)--a…

Zillesen, Pieter G. van Schaick – 1992
This paper introduces a hardware and software independent model for producing educational computer simulation environments. The model, which is based on the results of 32 studies of educational computer simulations program production, implies that educational computer simulation environments are specified, constructed, tested, implemented, and…
