Staats, Arthur W. – 1968
Psychological researchers should deal with the concrete stimulus-response principles of learning on which behavior is based, and study behaviors that are representative of real life behaviors. The present research strategy has come from two faulty ideas: first, a concern with underlying, inferred mental processes, rather than with actual tasks or…

A word recognition model involving four processing stages was used, and tests of various word recognition strategies were administered to 25 fourth graders and 25 college students. The model included the following stages: (1) using information in a passage; (2) generating hypotheses from what the next word might be; (3) testing these hypotheses…

Hatfield, C. R., Jr. – 1972
This speech examines the role of change agents in third world societies and indicates that the change agent must, to some extent, manipulate the social situation, even if his view of society is a more optimistic one than he finds in reality. If he considers strains and stresses to be the lubricants of change, then his focus on conflict as a…

Langstaff, Anne L.; Volkmor, Cara B. – 1971
A model for sequencing tasks in the area of visual perception was developed. This paper reports an attempt to validate the structure of the model. The performance of 50 normal preschool children on a 47 item test was studied. The results obtained support the use of the model as a framework for developing visual perception tasks. (Author)

Peer reviewedMischook, Muriel; Cole, Elizabeth – Volta Review, 1986
The chapter examines audition and early intervention with hearing impaired infants, the normal development of audition, a model of auditory learning and teaching (involving discrimination, identification, comprehension, and detection), progression along the developmental sequence, natural interactions which aid learning, and parent role. (DB)

Peer reviewedMacLeod, Colin M.; And Others – Intelligence, 1986
Field dependence and spatial ability are examined as different labels for a common underlying dimension. Sixty college students completed two tests of field dependence and two tests of spatial ability. Results of an analysis of covariance found no evidence to view the two traits as distinct from each other. (Author/LMO)

Educational institutions have become more complex, requiring more comprehensive and deliberate management. Adopting the corporate model will confuse more than clarify the problem. One way to promote institutional renewal is to reclaim academic traditions. (MLW)

Yurumezoglu, Kemal – Online Submission, 2006
In this article, we studied the paradigm of observation which has been restructured since the beginning of modern sciences. In order to interpret this observation paradigm, an expression, "observation without seeing" was formulated. It was noticed that our interpretation of the observation depends on our knowledge and experiences. Finally, it was…

Studied the effects of a model inservice workshop on teachers' (N=98) predispositions and attitudes toward arts education. Workshop sessions, on a rotating schedule, were conducted by professional consultants during one week.
