Gillund, Gary; Shiffrin, Richard M. – Psychological Review, 1984
The Search of Associative Memory (SAM) model for recall is extended by assuming that a familiarity process is used for recognition. The model, formalized in a computer simulation program, correctly predicts a number of findings in the literature as well as results from an experiment on the word-frequency effect. (Author/BW)

Manning, Robert E.; Potter, Fletcher I. – Journal of Environmental Education, 1984
Describes a computer-based Wilderness Travel Simulation Model that reduces the complexity of the outdoor system under study, allows students to act as managers (devising and testing their own management strategies), and increases student exposure to characteristics of actual park and wilderness areas. Two scenarios of recreational use patterns are…

Riew, John; Larson, John – Planning and Changing, 1984
Develops a model for estimating the comparative costs of a middle school structure and an intermediate school structure. Considers the extensive cost data collected in the Montgomery County (Maryland) school system. (JW)

Hunsaker, Johanna S.; And Others – Simulation and Games, 1983
Discusses characteristics indicative of negotiation at any level of human interaction, traits of a good negotiator, and a model of the negotiating process. The design of the "Any Occasion Card Company" simulation, which was developed to provide prospective negotiators with the opportunity to assess and improve negotiation skills, is…

McDonald, Ian – Australian Science Teachers Journal, 1976
Some of the problems associated with setting up a computer simulation are examined. Uses of computer simulation as a teaching tool in the life sciences are detailed with some examples presented from courses at Sturt College of Advanced Education. (BT)

Boyd, John D., II – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1973
Results from a 2 x 2 factorial design with a single control group revealed that microcounseling subjects gained significantly more in criterion performance than the control group. There was virtually no difference in the effectiveness of the two micromodels, and behavioral supervision was somewhat more successful than recall interrogation. (Author)

Grauer, Robert T.; Deutsch, Stuart J. – Educational Technology Systems, 1973
A simulation model of a suburban school district is synthesized by incorporating the results of multiple regression analysis within an Industrial Dynamics framework. The intermediate empirical analysis is described and results of the validation procedure for the final simulation model presented. Three computer experiments with the system model are…

Goldstein, Gerald S.; Moses, Leon N. – Journal of Economic Literature, 1973
Concentrates on studies of growth, composition (industry and population), and spatial form of urban areas--models of growth and intraurban land use, and urban simulation and efforts to build large scale statistical models for analyzing the impact of government policies on patterns of urban development. (RJ)
Descriptors: Economic Research, Government Role, Land Use, Models
Jamieson, G. H. – Programmed Learning and Educational Technology, 1973
A theoretical article which sets out to demonstrate the relevance of concepts derived from contemporary research into skill to a theory of simulation. (Author)

High, Colin; Richards, Paul – Journal of Geography, 1972
Practical instructions about using the random walk drainage network simulation model as a teaching excercise are given and the results discussed. A source of directional bias in the resulting simulated drainage patterns is identified and given an interpretation in the terms of the model. Three points of educational value concerning the model are…

Stansfield, Charles A.; Stansfield, Diane G. – Social Studies, 1971
A hypothetical country is devised using geographical terms charts. Students act as advisors in predicting future development of the land and community growth by using present relationships between physical environment and land utilization in actual regions as a base model. (Author/MB)

Descriptors: Conflict, Economic Factors, Game Theory, Geography
Pope, James A.; Cross, Edward M. – CAUSE/EFFECT, 1982
The design of a database interface, the different types of decisions supported, the nature and applications of the system outputs, and continuing work on extending the system are described. The system was designed to forecast the enrollment for Guilford College. (Author/MLW)
Descriptors: College Admission, Data Processing, Decision Support Systems, Enrollment
Stolovitch, Harold D. – Performance and Instruction, 1981
Presents some ideas for using simulation games to improve human performance, serve as motivators for instruction, provide opportunities for evaluating learning, and test research models. The potential for instructional technologists to diversify approaches to learning and meet learning needs is also discussed. Fifteen references are listed. (MER)
Descriptors: Behavioral Science Research, Educational Games, Evaluation Methods, Flow Charts
Winer, Laura R.; Vazquez-Abad, Jesus – Simulation/Games for Learning, 1981
Discusses the need for a sustained and systematic effort toward establishing a theoretical framework for educational simulations, proposes the adaptation of models borrowed from the natural and applied sciences, and describes three simulations based on such a model adapted using Brunerian learning theory. Sixteen references are listed. (LLS)
