3 Essential Feedback Categories for Inspiring Teacher Growth
A. Keith Young; Judith Mendoza Jimenez
Learning Professional, v46 n1 p34-37 2025
Feedback is essential for learning and a key component of career-long growth. Tailoring feedback formats is important to meet educators' unique needs and stages of development. Drawing on the authors' professional practice, three categories of feedback are defined and illustrated: (1) rapid response formats; (2) moderate engagement formats; and (3) expansive formats. This article unpacks each format with practical examples demonstrating how and when to effectively apply it. By thoughtfully designing and differentiating feedback formats, educational leaders create a responsive and supportive ecosystem that meets staff where they are and helps them reach their aspirations.
