Rollins, Howard A. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
Results suggest that Ss store some of the auditory and visual information in modality-dependent memory systems and that storage order determines recall accuracy. (Author)

Peer reviewedLehman, Elyse Brauch; Goodnow, Jacqueline – Developmental Psychology, 1972

Peer reviewedAngiolillo-Bent, Joel S.; Rips, Lance J. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1982
Two strings of letters were presented. Subjects were instructed to indicate whether the second string contained the same elements as the first, regardless of position. Reaction time increased with the number of positions that the letters were displaced. Results indicate that order may be an important factor in retrieval from memory. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Adults, Cognitive Processes, Letters (Alphabet), Memory
Wetherick, N. E. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
Short-term memory for single-syllable words is negatively related to the number of semantic categories from which the words are drawn. Test results are inconsistent with any theory postulating a separate short-term memory that takes no account of semantic factors. (CHK)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Linguistic Theory, Memory, Recall (Psychology)

Descriptors: Aphasia, Cognitive Processes, Drug Therapy, Exceptional Child Research
Stang, David J. – 1972
The mediating role of learning in the relationship between repeated exposure and affect was explored and supported in three experiments involving a total of 229 undergraduate participants. It was found that both learning and affect measures behaved in essentially the same way as a function of exposure duration (experiments I and III), serial…

Jones, Mari R. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1973
Two experiments compared Ss' serial recall of 16 hierarchically formed patterns of ordered digits. (Author)
Descriptors: Association (Psychology), Memorization, Memory, Prediction
Saba, Anton K.; Turnage, Thomas W. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1973
The unit-sequence interference hypothesis predicts that sequences of high-frequency words should be forgotten faster than equivalent sequences of low-frequency words, because of opportunities for response competition that increase with word frequency. (Authors)
Descriptors: Data Analysis, Interference (Language), Memory, Recall (Psychology)
Peer reviewedSiegel, Jane A.; Siegel, William – Psychological Review, 1972
Absolute judgment may be characterized as a special case of paired-associate learning in which the stimuli and responses are ordered, and responses are assigned to stimuli in serial order. (Authors)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Memory, Paired Associate Learning, Performance Factors
Gianutsos, Rosamond – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
Purpose of these four experiments was to elucidate the role of grouping in remembering words by using single-trial free recall. (Author/CB)
Descriptors: Classification, Cluster Grouping, Information Storage, Memory
Peer reviewedHarris, Gilbert J.; Burke, Deborah – Child Development, 1972
Study investigates the effects of spatial and temporal grouping on short-term serial recall by elementary school children of three different grade levels. (Authors)
