Reed, Donald B.; Furman, Gail Chase – 1992
The use of the 2 x 2 matrix in qualitative data analysis and theory generation is discussed, embracing the perspective that the objective of qualitative research in general and the analysis of qualitative data in particular is the development of theory. A 2 x 2 matrix is considered to be a tabular representation of the relationship of two…

Li, Jianmin; And Others – 1992
This paper discusses the issue of multiple testing and overall Type I error rates in contexts other than multiple comparisons of means. It demonstrates, using a 5 x 5 correlation matrix, the application of 5 recently developed modified Bonferroni procedures developed by the following authors: (1) Y. Hochberg (1988); (2) B. S. Holland and M. D.…

Albrecht, Klaus – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1974
A graphical method is proposed which allows one to visualize a real matrix and its inverse. In this scheme, various special properties of the matrix are easily recognized. Up to 5x5 matrices can be graphed on an average page if the range of values does not exceed two orders of magnitude. (Author/LS)

Presents mathematical games that involve a problem-solving matrix, multicolored cubes, and three-dimensional dominoes. The work of Alexander MacMahon is highlighted. (MA)

Hubert, Lawrence J.; Baker, Frank B. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1978
The strategy for investigating convergent and discriminant test validity, known as the multitrait-multimethod matrix, is investigated. A nonparametric significance testing procedure is suggested and demonstrated. (JKS)

Eaves, David – Journal of Multivariate Analysis, 1976
Vector sum of a white noise in an unknown hyperspace and an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process in an unknown line is observed through sharp linear test functions over a finite time span. Parameters associated with white noise are determinable and index measure-equivalence classes in relevant sample space. Intraclass relative density provides a basis for…

Formann, Anton K. – Psychometrika, 1986
It is shown that for equal parameters explicit formulas exist, facilitating the application of the Newton-Raphson procedure to estimate the parameters in the Rasch model and related models according to the conditional maximum likelihood principle. (Author/LMO)

Bentler, P. N.; Freeman, Edward H. – Psychometrika, 1983
Interpretations regarding the effects of exogenous and endogenous variables on endogenous variables in linear structural equation systems depend upon the convergence of a matrix power series. The test for convergence developed by Joreskog and Sorbom is shown to be only sufficient, not necessary and sufficient. (Author/JKS)

Weeks, David G.; Bentler, P.M. – Psychometrika, 1982
Restricted multidimensional scaling models, allowing constraints on parameters, are extended to the case of asymmetric data. Examples of several models are provided, using journal citation data. Possible extensions of the models are considered. (Author/JKS)

McDonald, Roderick P.; Hartmann, Wolfgang M. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1992
An algorithm for obtaining initial values for the minimization process in covariance structure analysis is developed that is more generally applicable for computing parameters connected to latent variables than the currently existing ones. The algorithm is formulated in terms of the RAM model but can be extended. (SLD)

Kiers, Henk A. L.; Takane, Yoshio – Psychometrika, 1993
The DEcomposition into DIrectional COMponents (DEDICOM) method for analysis of asymmetric data gives representations that are identified only up to a non-singular transformation. To identify solutions, it is proposed that subspace constraints be imposed on the stimulus coefficients. Procedures are discussed for several cases. (SLD)

Wothke, Werner; Browne, Michael W. – Psychometrika, 1990
The composite direct-product model for the multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) matrix is reparamaterized as a second-order factor analysis model. This process facilitates the use of widely available computer programs--LISREL and LISCOMP--for fitting the model. If bounds on phi and theta are not imposed to avoid inadmissible values, convergence problems…

Kar, Tapan Kumar – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science & Technology, 2006
The paper reports on studies of the impact of harvesting on a prey-predator system with non-monotonic functional response and intra-specific competition in the predator growth dynamics. The existence of its steady states and their stability are studied using eigenvalue analysis. The possibility of the existence of bionomic equilibria has been…

Phillips, Gary W. – 1982
The usefulness of path analysis as a means of better understanding various linear models is demonstrated. First, two linear models are presented in matrix form using linear structural relations (LISREL) notation. The two models, regression and factor analysis, are shown to be identical although the research question and data matrix to which these…
