Peer reviewedBergman, Lars R.; El-Khouri, Bassam – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
A program named EXACON is presented which performs exact cellwise analyses of two-way contingency tables. One-tailed probabilities are computed for the observed frequency of each cell according to two different models. Even though exact probabilities are computed, EXACON does not demand much computer time even for fairly large samples. (Author/LMO)

Peer reviewedKingma, Johannes; Reuvekamp, Johan – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
This package contains four FORTRAN 77 programs for Markov Model based learning experiments. One program estimates the likelihood of a one-stage learning model, another delivers estimates for a two-stage learning model. The third and fourth were designed for hypothesis testing the parameter differences between and within experimental conditions,…

Peer reviewedKingma, Johannes; Reuvekamp, Johan – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
This paper describes a PASCAL program that computes both different types of transitions and learning statistics suitable for learning experiments in which a two-stage Markov model is used. The frequency counts of the different transitions are used for estimating the parameters of the two-stage Markov model. (Author/LMO)

Volkan, Kevin – 1987
Structural equation modeling has become increasingly popular as a technique for the analysis of non-experimental data in the social sciences. This increase can be traced in part to the development of computer programs that facilitate structural equation modeling. The Linear Structural Relations (LISREL) program is the most widely used tool for…

Peer reviewedKraines, David P.; And Others – College Mathematics Journal, 1991
This article describes a calculus lesson that illustrates the nature of cycles in simple systems of nonlinear differential equations through the use of the Lotka-Volterra predator-prey model as incorporated in the computer software package, Phaser (version 1.0). (JJK)

Peer reviewedHerman, Eugene A., Ed. – College Mathematics Journal, 1991
This review features new examples of using the computer relative to college-level mathematics to enhance pedagogy, solve problems, and model real-life situations. Included is a LOGO program that can be used to create and to stimulate subsequent investigations of spirolaterals, those figures generated by repeatedly drawing basic loops. (JJK)

Peer reviewedTsiotras, George D. – Mathematics and Computer Education, 1988
Presents a review of microcomputer-based software packages that have been designed for Operations Research, Management Science, and Production and Operations Management. Listed for each package are price for student use, minimum system requirements needed to run the package, and maximum capability constraints. (PK)

Peer reviewedGraf, Klaus-Dieter; Hodgson, Bernard R. – For the Learning of Mathematics, 1990
The kaleidoscope is presented as a suitable topic for a preservice mathematics teacher's first contact with a nontrivial mathematical phenomenon. Included are historical notes on the kaleidoscope, explanation of the inner mechanisms of various kaleidoscope designs, and suggestions for further student investigations. (JJK)

Peer reviewedThomas, David A. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1992
Discusses the use of computer visualization to motivate and support mathematical dialogues. Describes the "Scientific Visualization Software Suite," a set of public domain visualization tools from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. (Author/MDH)
