Hayes-Roth, Barbara; Hayes-Roth, Frederick – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
An adaptive network model is proposed to represent the structure and processing of knowledge. Accessibility of subjects' stored information was measured. Relationships exist among (a) frequency of verifying a test relation, (b) other relations involving concepts used to evaluate test relation, (c) frequency of verifying those relations. (CHK)

Macht, Michael; Scheirer, C. James – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
A variant of the Peterson (1959) paradigm was used to investigate retrieval of single pairs of items varying in imagery value. Latency to respond showed that if one item was concrete, no differential retrieval speeds were found. This result supports an organizational view of imagery. (CHK)

Anderson, Richard C.; And Others – 1974
In two experiments a total of 662 high school students read a prose passage, took a verbatim or paraphrase quiz, and a week later completed a verbatim or paraphrase delayed test. Taking a quiz significantly enhanced performance on the delayed test. Performance was consistently much higher on the verbatim than on the paraphrase forms of quizzes and…

Humphreys, Michael S. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
Endpoint and distance effects have been observed in the protocols of subjects learning linear orderings. These were produced by subjects learning the frequency of word occurrence as the greater member of a relationship. Error patterns were similar on all trials. (CHK)

Brodie, Delbert A.; Prytulak, Lubomir S. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
The hypothesis that free recall curves reflecting effects of serial position, presentation time and delay of recall are attributable to subjects' pattern of rehearsal was explored. Experiments varied the patterns of rehearsal to examine the effects on recall. (CHK)

Healy, Alice F. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1975
Short-term retention of temporal and spatial order information were compared using the distractor paradigm. Use of phonemic coding and coding of information about temporal-spatial patterns were interrupted to observe subject's reaction and ability to recall. (CHK)

Masson, Michael E. J. – 1978
A battery of memory tests was administered to 243 male university students. Factor analysis with oblique rotation of factors revealed five factors: (1) associative memory (particularly important in paired-associate tests), (2) short-term visual memory (the ability to derive information from briefly presented visual displays), (3) meaningful memory…

Friendly, Michael L. – 1972
A method for assessing the structure of organization was developed on the basis of the ordinal separation, or proximity, between pairs ot items in recall protocols over a series of trials. The proximity measure is based on the assumption, common to all indices of organization, that items which are coded together in subjective memory units will…

Shaughnessy, Michael F. – 1985
Recent theorists have begun to re-conceptualize the construct of "intelligence." This paper reviews recent theories of intelligence and indicates implications for practitioners, educators, and individuals. Theories and theorists discussed include the following: (1) Robert Sternberg has advanced the "triarchic theory" of…
