Tyler, J.; Hardy, R. C. – Alberta Journal of Educational Research, 1978
Thirty subjects were presented with a visual form discrimination task requiring them to match Roman letters when a variety of transformations were held constant. They were given massed practice across four blocks of eight stimuli. Results of a repeated measures analysis of variance showed support for the distinctive features hypothesis. (JC)

Kanno, Atsushi – RIEEC Report, 1989
The study was designed to investigate the learning processes in discrimination shift learning, in terms of developmental views of "logical manipulation by classification." Tasks comparing sizes of intradimensional value-classes and comparing sizes of interdimensional value-classes were devised in order to measure subjects' levels of…

JOHNSON, EDWARD E.; AND OTHERS – 1967
A STUDY, IN PROGRESS, IS ATTEMPTING TO DETERMINE THE INTERACTION OF VARIOUS REWARD CONDITIONS AND VARIOUS TYPES OF PRESCHOOL EXPERIENCE WITH DISCRIMINATION LEARNING. THE SUBJECTS ARE 240 4- AND 5-YEAR-OLD CHILDREN WITH THREE TYPES OF PRESCHOOL EXPERIENCE--1 TO 3 MONTHS OF HEAD START, 10 TO 12 MONTHS OF HEAD START, AND NO ATTENDANCE IN A PRESCHOOL…

Waber, Deborah P.; Weiler, Michael D.; Wolff, Peter H.; Bellinger, David; Marcus, David J.; Ariel, Raya; Forebes, Peter; Wypig, David – Child Development, 2001
Compared the processing of rapid auditory stimuli on two-tone auditory discrimination tasks by 7- to 11-year-olds with learning impairments (LI) and those without learning impairments (non-LI). Found that LI children committed more errors, but the effects of timing were comparable. Obtained same results with a sample of good and poor readers. Task…

HAUGHEY, BETTY E.; SHORT, JERRY – 1966
TWO STRATEGIES FOR TEACHING MULTIPLE-DISCRIMINATION TASKS WERE REPORTED. THE "MULTIPLE CONCEPT" PRESENTS SIMPLE DESCRIPTIONS OF SEVERAL RELATED CONCEPTS AT THE BEGINNING OF INSTRUCTION. INCREASINGLY COMPLEX MATERIAL PERTAINING TO THESE CONCEPTS IS THEN GRADUALLY INTRODUCED. THE "SINGLE CONCEPT" PRESENTS ONE CONCEPT AT A TIME,…

Wilder, Larry – 1971
The frequency theory of verbal discrimination learning makes no distinction between silent and spoken rehearsal. Further, the frequency theory predicts that the study-test method of list presentation is superior to the anticipation method. College students, performing under silent and spoken rehearsal conditions, learned 16 low-frequency…
