Twelve suggestions for building a German program to attract and maintain student interest and enrollment are discussed. The strategies concern: teacher qualities; mini-course units; cadet teaching; average student; grading; community involvement; foreign language projects; and inter-cultural readings. (SW)

Noting a 14.3 percent decline in student enrollment in college German-language programs between the fall terms of 1968 and 1970, an analysis of the situation is developed and proposals for reversing the trend are outlined.
