Foreign students learning English often do not correct their own errors when working in the language laboratory. It appears that students fail to respond if the material to be processed, answered or repeated is either too long or cannot be interpreted. A repeat-loop tape system may answer some problems. (CHK)

Problems involved in teaching the Chinese language through literature include: the difficulty of the language; the lack of good anthologies of Chinese literature for classroom use; the question of original works vs. abridgements; lack of good critical introductions and studies and Chinese approaches to philosophy and literary construction. Australia has a need for trained interpreters, particularly to work in social services involving immigrants. Training courses have begun for such interpreters, one at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. The University of Southwestern Louisiana has made a previously required language laboratory course an elective course and has changed the regular two-hour-per-week requirement for those who enroll to a twenty-hour semester total requirement.
