A Faculty Internship Program as Societal Impact and Professional Engagement under AACSB Standards
Jeanette C. Maier-Lytle; Jill M. Oeding; Brian M. McGuire
Journal of Faculty Development, v39 n2 p19-24 2025
Faculty members should consider immersing themselves into the workforce as a means of faculty development so they can observe first-hand the challenges facing their profession. This article illustrates an example of a business faculty internship and the positive impact it had on the faculty, students, employer, and curriculum. A faculty internship program may be used to foster "societal impact" and "professional engagement" under the 2020 Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) Standards. Faculty internships may be applied to disciplines other than business as a means of bringing recent and relevant experience to current students--the professionals of tomorrow.
