A review of annual survey data revealed that hearing impaired children under age 6 reported in 1984, when compared to those reported in 1977, tended to be younger; had higher percentages of heredity, meningitis, and prematurity as causes of hearing loss; and were more likely to have additional handicaps. The existence of maltreatment reports for 500 children with multiple disabilities was examined. The profiles of demographic and family characteristics associated with child maltreatment reporting were consistent with the literature, but child functional and developmental characteristics were not confirmed as risk factors. The study of 883 individuals, age 45 and older, with cerebral palsy and mental retardation, found (1) the presence of cerebral palsy differentiates this group, (2) there were more males than females at all age levels, (3) there were virtually no non-Whites in old-old group, (4) and there were decreases in seizure rates with age.
