Johnson, Jenee Vickers; Travers, Jason C.; Forbes, Heather J.; Zimmerman, Kathleen – Education and Training in Autism and Developmental Disabilities, 2021
Approximately 50 years of research on rapid toilet training (RTT) first used by Azrin and Foxx (1971) indicates RTT is effective for teaching individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) independent toileting routines. Williams, Marian E.; Haranin, Emily C. – Journal of Mental Health Research in Intellectual Disabilities, 2016
Up to 70% of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) have a co-occurring mental health disorder; however, many clinicians feel unprepared to serve children with complex co-occurring conditions. This study surveyed 64 mental health clinicians working in 21 publically-funded mental health agencies in a large urban setting to explore their…

Guardino, Caroline A. – American Annals of the Deaf, 2008
Students with a hearing loss often have an additional disability. Hunt, Ann; Shepherd, Charles – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1993
Prevalence of autism in tuberous sclerosis was estimated by interviewing parents of 21 children (ages 3-11). The estimated prevalence of autism was found to be one in four children in general, and one in two of those with mental retardation. Tuberous sclerosis could be a significant cause of autism and pervasive developmental disorders,…

Li, Alicia – TEACHING Exceptional Children, 2009
At least 60% of children with disabilities have multiple disabilities including visual impairments (VI). Because the visual system is neurologically based, any problems of the neurological system will also likely affect vision. The estimated number of students with VI and additional disabilities has increased significantly over the years. Since…

Smith, Donald E. P.; And Others – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1988
Repeated impedance measures were given over five weeks to 11 autistic, 20 learning-disabled, and 20 normal children. A repeated measures analysis of variance led to the conclusion that fluctuating, negative middle ear pressure greater than normal characterizes both autistic and learning-disabled children with the more abnormal pressures typical in…

Gillberg, Christopher; Rasmussen, Peder – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1994
This paper summarizes the case histories of four young children with concurrent autistic disorder and Williams syndrome. Cantu, Eduardo S.; And Others – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 1990
The cytogenetic survey of 67 individuals previously identified as having mental retardation and autistic behaviors revealed only 1.5 percent with the fragile X chromosome. The finding suggests that most persons with fragile X syndrome do not have autistic behaviors severe enough to be identified as a secondary psychiatric diagnosis. (Author/DB)

Baker, Peggy; Piven, Joseph; Sato, Yutaka – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1998
A study investigated the incidence of autism in 20 patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). The prevalence of autistic disorder was conservatively estimated at 20%. Data suggest a possible association between both hypsarrythmia and TSC-related cardiac abnormalities with autism in this subgroup of individuals with TSC. (Author/CR)
