An overview of the 68 optometric residencies offered at 35 health care facilities of the Department of Veterans Affairs looks at the resident selection system, accrediting and position funding, and growth in residency positions since 1975. The Vision Educational Foundation, an independent organization of programs and projects to meet the challenges of the optometric profession, is described. The foundation provides long-range support to educational institutions, builds an endowment fund, generates funding, and fosters educational projects. (MLW)

A survey undertaken by the American Optometric Association reveals research projects, investigators, and in some cases, funding sources for research in the areas of low vision, ophthalmic lenses, pharmacology, anatomy and pathology, and sensory and motor functions.
