Heilbrun, Alfred B., Jr. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1982
Investigated the relationship between two cognitive variables, social insight and psychological defensiveness, and scores on a validated scale for predicting early dropout or continuation in insight-oriented counseling for males (N=48) and females (N=86). Results suggest continuation for highly defended, less insightful males and highly defended,…

Vernon, Philip A.; Mori, Monica – Intelligence, 1992
In 2 studies with 85 and 88 undergraduates, respectively, peripheral nerve conduction velocity (NCV) was significantly correlated with IQ score and reaction times, and NCV and reaction time contributed significantly, in combination, to prediction of IQ. Results are interpreted in terms of a neural efficiency model of intelligence. (Author/SLD)

Lunneborg, Clifford E. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1978
Group and individually administered measure of intelligence were related to laboratory based measures of human information processing on a group of college freshmen. Among other results, high IQ was related to right hemisphere efficiency in processing non-linguistic stimuli. (Author/JKS)

Dingman, Sherry M.; And Others – Journal of American Indian Education, 1995
Eighty American Indian students enrolled in Montana colleges and universities completed eight tests of cognitive function. Academic success (as measured by number of quarters completed) was related to three measures of simultaneous processing: orientation, form completion, and localization. These measures are seldom included on standardized…

Holmgren, Byron R.; Covin, Theron M. – Education, 1984
Compared scores on Survey of Inter-Personal Values (SIV) and Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal between 25 elementary education, 25 special education, and 10 speech correction majors to examine critical thinking ability and interpersonal values. Significant difference appeared only on SIV Benevolence subscale. Discussed relevance for…

Hughes, Owen L. – Intelligence, 1983
Two methodological issues involved in determining the relationship between learning and general intelligence were examined: (1) the use of learning strategies in a paired-associate task and (2) the importance of time (rather than errors) in the measurement of learning efficiency. (Author/RD)

Vernon, Philip A. – Intelligence, 1983
This study investigated the relationship between measures of speed of cognitive information processing and intelligence test scores. Cognitive processing measures were significantly related to IQ scores. Reaction time tests measure cognitive operations basic to intelligence, and individual differences in intelligence are partly due to variability…

Leirer, Von O.; And Others – 1980
Research on abstract categorical reasoning has shown that students with "A" grade point averages (GPA) have limited, better and often less, reasoning ability than students with lower GPA's. A similar effect was also found when testing "bright" and "dull" subjects. An analysis of this effect was conducted using the component model of categorical…

Whitely, Susan E. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1979
Two sources of inconsistency were separated by reanalyzing data from a major study on short-term consistency. Little evidence was found for generalizability or behavioral predictability. Results supported the assumption that measurement error from short-term fluctuations is not due to systematic individual differences in response consistency.…

Peitzman, Steven J.; And Others – Academic Medicine, 1990
Performance by medical school sophomores (N=106) on higher-order questions in a second year introductory medicine course did not correlate with perceived performance in subsequent clerkships any better than did performance on fact-recall items. The use of multiple clinical simulations may emerge as the only satisfactory controlled assay of…
