This article describes and evaluates a friendly visiting program set up by a college in connection with a hospital for older adults. Attitudinal changes of college students toward the aged are discussed. (Author/HLM)

Researchers and practitioners have jointly applied research technology and data to a wide range of practical problems. The program has resulted in: greater use of knowledge by practitioners, the development of applied research goals by academicians, and the basis for ongoing collaboration between research and practice. Residents in a home for the aged taught German to students who received college credit. Results suggest that geriatric residents can assume active roles and engage in profound interpersonal relationships until death. Students derived many of the same benefits in addition to improving language skills. (Author)

Placement and retention data demonstrate that the program has been successful in preparing students for careers in aging. Job mobility has been high within the field. The career line concept appears more applicable to students who complete the long-term care administration concentration. (Author)
