Farver, Albert S.; And Others – 1973
The purpose of the study was to compare prediction of freshman, sophomore, junior and senior year grades for black and white students by sex for new freshmen who entered College Park in fall 1968 and 1969. Predoctors were SAT-Verbal and Math and high school grades (HSGPA) using multiple regression equations. Results showed that many different…

Sabers, Darrell Lee – 1967
There were three objectives of a revision and validation of the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test (IAAT): (1) to reduce the importance of speed; (2) to improve the quality of the existing items; and (3) to replace a subtest with one of potentially greater predictive validity. The last of these goals involved the development of a new subtest composed of a…

Peer reviewedGoldman, Roy D.; Slaughter, Robert E. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1976
Many errors in the selection of college students are inversely related to the validity of the predictors employed. The generally weak validity with which grade point average (GPA) has been predicted may be a criterion problem rather than a predictor problem. GPA prediction is inferior to single-class grade prediction. (BJG)

Peer reviewedLewis, William A.; And Others – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1978
College freshman English teachers and high school sophomore English teachers reported the variables they use in grading; their responses were factor analyzed. Teachers' grading practices varied considerably, and knowledge of practices added to the ability of test scores to predict course grades. (Author/CTM)

Peer reviewedWaters, L. K.; Wherry Waters, Carrie – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Results showed that significantly more accurate predictions of academic performance were obtained for lower fear of failure students and for students who perceived their present course grades as more important to their career plans than those who did not. (Author/DEP)

Reiss, J. A.; Topsom, R. D. – Vestes: Australian Universities' Review, 1975
A study of the academic performance of college students at LaTrobe University, Australia, in relation to their college entrance scores (high school achievement) shows that although the scores provide a reasonable guide to first-year performance, a better guide to overall success is the performance at the first-year level. (JT)

The Academic Orientation (AOR) scale of the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory was evaluated regarding its usefulness in predicting academic achievement in college. Also, the AOR scores of 148 low, average, and high functioning college students were compared. Correlational analyses indicated that the AOR is quite inadequate for predicting either…
