Explains how the ideals of the Jewish tradition, Socialist Zionism, and progressive education made education for work central in the kibbutz. Analyzes kibbutz adolescents' behavior at four biographical stages: voluntary community service, military service, leave of absence from the kibbutz, and higher education.
