This article reports on the results of the National Core French Study (NCFS), a comprehensive research and development project undertaken throughout Canada between 1984-90. It first reviews the four syllabuses, strategies for student evaluation are discussed, and a model for French second-language teaching are described. (19 references) (VWL)
