The Effect of a Psychoeducation Program for Parents of Gifted Children on Irrational Beliefs, Psychological Resilience and Parental Stress
Gifted Education International, v41 n3 p382-409 2025
This study aims to describe in depth the life experiences of parents with gifted children within the framework of culture-specific concepts, structures, and processes and to test the effectiveness of a psychoeducation model developed in response to the emerging need. The study was designed as a mixed-method research model. The structural descriptors of "need for information, cognitive strengths and weaknesses, family strength as a system, and community and cultural influence" were put forward as common elements of the general structural description. Based on the qualitative findings, a six-week psychoeducation program was developed and implemented on a total of 28 parents, 14 from the experimental group and 14 from the control group. As a result of the study, it was determined that the psychoeducation program was effective in reducing the irrational beliefs and parenting stress levels of the parents participating in the program and increasing their psychological resilience levels.
