Kiers, Henk A. L. – Psychometrika, 1994
A class of oblique rotation procedures is proposed to rotate a pattern matrix so that it optimally resembles a matrix that has an exact simple pattern. It is demonstrated that the method can recover relatively complex simple structures where other simple structure rotation techniques fail. (SLD)

Thomas, Adrian; Donnell, Alison J.; Buboltz, Walter C., Jr. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2001
Study uses confirmatory factor analysis to assess four models of the Hong Psychological Reactance Scale (HPRS) and attempts to provide psychometric information about the subscales. Results found inadequate fit for Hong's four orthogonal models but sufficient fit for two nonorthogonal models. (Contains 29 references and 3 tables.) (GCP)

Bolton, Brian; And Others – 1973
These four volumes provide a comprehensive survey of the 1,600 factor analytic studies reported in psychological journals between 1941 and 1970. Each study is summarized and indexed using the Psychological Abstracts table of contents. The summaries follow a standard format: purpose, subjects, variables, method, results, and conclusions. The first…

Ogasawara, Haruhiko – Psychometrika, 2002
Derived formulas for the asymptotic standard errors of component loading estimates to cover the cases of principal component analysis for unstandardized and standardized variables with orthogonal and oblique rotations. Used the formulas with a real correlation matrix of 355 subjects who took 12 psychological tests. (SLD)

Frederick, Brigitte N. – 1999
Factor analysis attempts to study how different objects group together to form factors with the purposes of: (1) reducing the number of factorable entities (e.g., variables) with which the researcher needs to deal; (2) searching data for qualitative and quantitative differences; and (3) testing hypotheses (R. Gorsuch, 1983). While most factor…

Khan, S. B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1973
Purpose of this note is to point to an obvious but useful relationship by which estimation of individual factor scores can be omitted when obtaining relationships between factors and an external set of variables. (Author)

Brown, Michael T.; Duren, Paula S. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1988
Employed confirmatory and exploratory factor analytic methods to test the hypothesis that Spielberger's revised four-factor model of anxiety was valid for characterizing the anxiety of Blacks. Administered the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory to 182 Black adults. Confirmed the state-trait assertion, but not the four-factor model of anxiety-present…

Paunonen, Sampo V. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1987
Study determines that solutions derived by multiple group analysis and item-total correlation analysis were generally most interpretable from a psychological perspective. It was concluded that their application to test construction is preferred over Procrustean or confirmatory maximum likelihood approaches. (RB)

Kroonenberg, Pieter M.; Lewis, Charles – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1982
Procedures suggested by Joreskog for performing exploratory factor analysis were evaluated. An in-depth analysis of psychological test scores of junior high school students was conducted. Procedures using exploratory and confirmatory techniques were found to produce misleading results in some instances. (Author/DWH)

Bell, Morris; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Factor analysis of the Bell Object Relations Inventory items produced four subscales interpreted to be underlying dimensions of object relations. The implications of the subscales, and the potential of the instrument for empirical examination of theoretical assumptions about the object relations ego function and its components, are discussed.…

Giambra, Leonard M. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
The 344 items of the Imaginal Processes Inventory plus age were intercorrelated for 1300 subjects. This intercorrelation matrix was subjected to a principal components analysis; 53 principal components then were rotated to a Varimax solution. Results of the factor analysis are given in terms of the meaningful interpreted components. (Author)

Schwartz, Steven A. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1978
A method for the construction of scales which combines the rational (or intuitive) approach with an empirical (item analysis) approach is presented. A step-by-step procedure is provided. (Author/JKS)

Vidoni, Dennis O. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
In the original item factor analysis of the Adjective Check List, evidence was found for seven main factors. In this cross-validation study, five of the seven factors were replicated: social desirability, introversion/extroversion, internal discomfort, cognitive independence, and social attractiveness. Tables with factor loadings are presented.…
