Walberg, Herbert J. – American Educational Research Journal, 1971
Similarities between regression analysis and analysis of variance are noted and it is argued that the former has advantages over the latter. It is also argued that canonical correlation analysis is more suitable than factor analysis in certain cases. The argument is illustrated with four recent pieces of educational research. (DG)

McDonald, Roderick P. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1979
Two major and two minor principles are shown to serve to generate a large number of multivariate models, including canonical analysis, factor analysis, and latent trait test theory. The statistical underpinnings of the theory are discussed. (Author/JKS)

Sorbom, Dag – Psychometrika, 1989
A modification index is presented to aid in reformulating hypothetical models rejected after analysis of empirical data. This index is an improvement over the one in the LISREL V computer program in that it takes into account changes in all parameters of the model when one parameter is freed. (SLD)

Harrison, William B. – Economics of Education Review, 1995
Combines costs of fund raising and college-relations data for each of 3 years from 17 colleges and universities with the schools' institutional characteristics to predict ratios of alumni donors to each school's total alumni. With factor analysis, classifies expenditure and institutional variables according to fund-raising effort, donor wealth,…

Segawa, Eisuke – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2005
Multi-indicator growth models were formulated as special three-level hierarchical generalized linear models to analyze growth of a trait latent variable measured by ordinal items. Items are nested within a time-point, and time-points are nested within subject. These models are special because they include factor analytic structure. This model can…

Plake, Barbara S.; And Others – 1983
A confirmatory factor analysis was used to determine the respective viability of factor structure models for the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) standardization data. The traditional verbal-performance split was compared to an alternative model proposed by Gutkin, Reynolds and Galvin. The confirmatory analysis indicated that the…

Brown, Ric; Carbonari, Joseph P. – 1977
Identification and explication of construct relationships, under conditions of extraneous variable control in multiple regression and its multivariate analog, canonical analysis, were studied. Several data models were generated as a function of the interaction of partial correlation and orthogonal linear transformations on nursing examination…

Dziuban, Charles D. – 1976
In this study, the data originally used by Hemphill, Griffiths, and Frederiksen in their "Whittman" study of principals' behavior patterns were factor analyzed using psychometric techniques. Results of the analysis substantiated four of the eight originally defined dimensions of administrative behavior, and an additional important factor termed…

Larsson, Bernt – 1974
This report gives some simple examples of stability for one factor and 2 x 2 factorial analysis of variance, reliability and correlations. The findings are very different: from superstability (no transformation whatsoever can change the result) to almost total instability. This is followed by a discussion of applications to multivariate analysis,…

Hofmann, Richard J. – 1971
The primary objectives of this paper are pedagogical: to provide a reliable semi-subjective transformation procedure that might be used without difficulty by beginning students in factor analysis; to clarify and extend the existing knowledge of oblique transformations in general; and to provide a brief but meaningful explication of the general…

Werts, Charles E.; And Others – 1971
The logical structure of the Campbell and Fiske multitrait-multimethod approach is applied to the problem of studying growth and its determinants. The resulting model is a special case of Joreskog's general model for the analysis of covariance structures. The relationships of traditional psychometric formulations to this model are detailed.…

Pohlmann, John T. – 1972
The Monte Carlo method was used, and the factors considered were (1) level of main effects in the population; (2) level of interaction effects in the population; (3) alpha level used in determining whether to pool; and (4) number of degrees of freedom. The results indicated that when the ratio degrees of freedom (axb)/degrees of freedom (within)…

Magidson, Jay – Evaluation Quarterly, 1977
Path analysis was used to reevaluate the analysis of covariance quasiexperimental study of the effectiveness of the Head Start program. Contrary to the original analysis, the alternative approach yields small positive estimates of effect. (Author/CTM)

Ethington, Corinna A. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1987
This study examined the effect of type of correlation matrix on the robustness of LISREL maximum likelihood and unweighted least squares structural parameter estimates for models with categorical variables. The analysis of mixed matrices produced estimates that closely approximated the model parameters except where dichotomous variables were…
