McDonald, Roderick P.; Mulaik, Stanley A. – 1978
If the factor loadings of a core set of variables (fitting the general factor model) are the same when analyzed alone, and when analyzed along with the rest of the variables in an infinite behavior domain, there is only one factor variable in the domain that is a possible factor variable of the core set. If the condition of consistency of factor…

Kano, Yutaka; Ihara, Masamori – Psychometrika, 1994
A useful method is proposed for identifying a variable as inconsistent in factor analysis. The procedure, based on the likelihood principle, is illustrated. Statistical properties such as the effect of misspecified hypotheses, the problem of multiple comparisons, and robustness to violation of distributional assumptions are investigated. (SLD)

Nandakumar, Ratna – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1994
Using simulated and real data, this study compares the performance of three methodologies for assessing unidimensionality: (1) DIMTEST; (2) the approach of Holland and Rosenbaum; and (3) nonlinear factor analysis. All three models correctly confirm unidimensionality, but they differ in their ability to detect the lack of unidimensionality.…

Schumacker, Randall E. – 1994
A population data set was randomly generated from which a random sample was drawn. This sample was randomly divided into two data sets, one of which was used to generate parameter estimates, which were then used in the second data set for cross-validation purposes. The best variable subset models were compared between the two data sets on the…

Allerup, Peter – 1985
Approximately 1200 Danish school children aged 8, 11, and 14 participated in a questionnaire study under the caption, "Why I like to read." Data from Denmark formed part of an international study, in which 12 other countries used the same questionnaire to explore various functions of reading and to compare them over different countries.…

Hayes, Andrew E. – 1973
This study serves as a basis for revisions of the Organizational Climate Description Questionnaire (OCDQ) and as the second part of a larger study in which the conceptual model of climate introduced by Halpin and Croft, and the OCDQ, will be revised. The purposes were (1) to determine the factor structure of the OCDQ when a large, national sample…

Keeves, John P. – International Journal of Educational Research, 1986
Five statistical techniques were used to analyze the data collected in a previous article (TM 511 223) on student achievement, attention, and motivation in secondary school mathematics and science: ordinary least squares regression, canonical correlation, factorial modeling, partial least squares path analysis, and linear structural relations…
