Helton, George B. – Focus on Exceptional Children, 1984
The article presents an assessment system and specific techniques appropriate for the classification and programing of mentally retarded, learning disabled, and emotionally disturbed students. Factors to be integrated in assessment are considered, sequencing aspects are noted, and suggestions are given for choosing asessment instruments. (CL)

Mueller, Horst H.; And Others – Mental Retardation and Learning Disability Bulletin, 1983
Metaanalytical procedures examined the Wechsler Intelligence Scale-Revised subtest performance patterns of 36 samples of below average, normal average, learning disabled average, and above average IQ children from research. Relative patterning of WISC-R subtests as reflected in children's Bannatyne-recategorized performance profiles appeared to be…

Kendall, John S.; Ryan, Susan S.; Richardson, Amy T. – Mid-Continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL), 2005
This paper describes a practical method for identifying and communicating expectations of student performance in the classroom. The method has been used at McREL for clients who require a systematic approach to setting performance expectations and communicating these to their constituents. This document in organized in the following sections: (1)…

Thompson, Bruce – Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, 1980
Meltsner classified evaluators as technicians, politicians, entrepreneurs, or pretenders, based upon differing expectations norms, training, and motivations. This role-perception study of evaluators in a large urban school district supported Meltsner, although few technicians or politicians emerged. (CP)

Spencer, Frank W. – Criminal Justice and Behavior, 1980
Male delinquents (N=53) were classified as either psychopathic, neurotic, immature, or socialized-aggressive. The relationships of several cognitive characteristics to membership in the groups were investigated. Group differences in perception of others provides insight for treatment approaches. (Author/RC)

Chan, Charles C.; Tsui, M. S.; Chan, Mandy Y. C.; Hong, Joe H. – Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, 2002
Using analyses of essay papers and classroom discussion responses, compared different educational taxonomies for measuring students' cognitive learning outcomes: Structure of the Observed Learning Outcomes (SOLO), Bloom's taxonomy, and a reflective thinking measurement model. Found that SOLO is suitable for measuring different kinds of learning…

Williams, Janice E. – Evaluation Review, 1989
A numerical taxonomy of evaluation theory and practice is presented, based on responses by 14 leading evaluators to a two-page questionnaire. A multidimensional scaling analysis of results indicated that differences between evaluation theories are more complex and more divisive than are differences in evaluation practice. (TJH)

Van Ryzin, Gregg G. – Evaluation Practice, 1995
The use of cluster analysis, a multivariate classification technique, is advocated as a framework to guide the purposive selection of projects for multiple-case study research. A cluster analysis of a contrived data set demonstrates how the procedure is performed, and advantages and limitations are discussed. (SLD)

Sloman, Steven A. – Cognitive Psychology, 1998
Five experiments involving 173 college students show that people frequently do not apply the category inclusion rule when evaluating categorical arguments involving natural categories and a single nonexplainable predicate. Judgments tended to be proportional to the similarity between premise and conclusion categories. (SLD)

Whiteman, Shawn D.; Loken, Eric – Journal of Marriage and Family, 2006
Several methods exist for typologizing dyadic relationships. The present study reviews the utility of methods for typologizing relationships, exploring the strengths and weaknesses of 3 different approaches, and applying them to the study of adolescent sibling relationships. Brown, Alan S.; Zoccoli, Sandy L.; Leahy, Matthew M. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 2005
In 3 experiments the authors examined changes in successive exemplar generation percentages within categories defined semantically (e.g., fruit-P, fruit-A, fruit-M) and by 1st letter (e.g., insect-C, sport-C, car-C), with a mixed control condition (e.g., fruit-P, insect-C, disease-M). Retrieval success declined across 12 successive items in both…
