Gross, Alan L.; Torres-Quevedo, Rocio – Psychometrika, 1995
The posterior distribution of the bivariate correlation is analytically derived given a data set where "X" is completely observed, but "Y" is missing at random for a portion of the sample. Interval estimates of the correlation are constructed from the posterior distribution in terms of the highest density regions. (SLD)

Mislevy, Robert J. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1988
A framework is described for exploiting auxiliary information about test items within item response theory models to enhance parameter estimates. The method also provides diagnostic information about items' operating characteristics. An empirical Bayesian estimation of Rasch item difficulty is used to illustrate the principles involved. (TJH)

Raudenbush, Stephen W. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1988
Estimation theory in educational statistics and the application of hierarchical linear models are reviewed. Observations within each group vary as a function of microparameters. Microparameters vary across the population of groups as a function of macroparameters. Bayes and empirical Bayes viewpoints review examples with two levels of hierarchy.…

van Onna, M. J. H. – Psychometrika, 2002
Studied whether ordered latent class models can be used as nonparametric item response theory (NIRT) models to scale polytomous models. Simulation findings show that the Bayesian estimation method presented can handle the inequality restrictions on the parameters and the sparseness of the data quite well. (SLD)

Cooil, Bruce; Rust, Roland T. – Psychometrika, 1995
A proportional reduction in loss (PRL) measure for reliability of categorical data is explored for the situation in which each of "N" judges assigns a subject to one of "K" categories. Calculating a lower bound for reliability under more general conditions than had been proposed is demonstrated. (SLD)

Maris, Gunter; Maris, Eric – Psychometrika, 2002
Introduces a new technique for estimating the parameters of models with continuous latent data. To streamline presentation of this Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method, the Rasch model is used. Also introduces a new sampling-based Bayesian technique, the DA-T-Gibbs sampler. (SLD)

Fligner, Michael A.; Verducci, Joseph S. – Psychometrika, 1990
The concept of consensus ordering is defined, and formulas for exact and approximate posterior probabilities for consensus ordering are developed under the assumption of a generalized Mallows' model with a diffuse conjugate prior. These methods are applied to a data set concerning 98 college students. (SLD)

Jannarone, Robert J.; And Others – Psychometrika, 1990
A Bayes estimation procedure for Rasch-type model estimation that has statistical and computational advantages over existing methods is described. It involves constructing posterior distributions based on sample data and artificial data reflecting prior information. Its use for some Rasch-type cases, and how it can improve parameter estimation are…

Fox, Jean-Paul; Glas, Cees A. W. – Psychometrika, 2001
Imposed a two-level regression model on the ability parameters in an item response theory (IRT) model. Uses a simulation study and an empirical data set to show that the parameters of the two-parameter normal ogive model and the multilevel model can be estimated in a Bayesian framework using Gibbs sampling. Song, Xin-Yuan; Lee, Sik-Yum – Psychometrika, 2002
Developed a Bayesian approach for structural equation models with ignorable missing continuous and polytomous data that obtains joint Bayesian estimates of thresholds, structural parameters, and latent factor scores simultaneously. Illustrated the approach through analysis of a real data set of 20 patterns of condom use in the Philippines. (SLD)

Bockenholt, Ulf – Psychometrika, 1993
A flexible class of stochastic mixture models is introduced and illustrated for analysis and interpretation of individual differences in recurrent choice and other types of count data. These models are derived by specifying elements of the choice process at the individual level. An easy-to-implement algorithm is presented for parameter estimation.…

Woodbury, Max A.; Manton, Kenneth G. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1991
An empirical Bayes-maximum likelihood estimation procedure is presented for the application of fuzzy partition models in describing high dimensional discrete response data. The model describes individuals in terms of partial membership in multiple latent categories that represent bounded discrete spaces. (SLD)

Kuo, Lynn; Cohen, Michael P. – 1993
Bayesian methods for estimating dose response curves in quantal bioassay are studied. A linearized multi-stage model is assumed for the shape of the curves. A Gibbs sampling approach with data augmentation is employed to compute the Bayes estimates. In addition, estimation of the "relative additional risk" and the "risk specific…

Mislevy, Robert J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1993
Relationships between Bayesian ability estimates and the parameters of a normal population distribution are derived in the context of classical test theory. Formulas are presented for practical work with Bayesian ability estimates, and a numerical illustration is provided. (SLD)

Braun, Henry I.; Zwick, Rebecca – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1993
An approach to empirical Bayes analysis of aggregated survival data from different groups of subjects is presented based on a contingency table representation of data using transformations to permit the use of normal priors. Analysis of families of survival curves leads to improvements over classical estimates. (SLD)
